A test plate and a comparator make up the device. The test plate is compared to a black plate. Heat losses from both plates will be the same, with the exception of radiation losses, when all physical parameters, including dimensions and temperatures, are comparable. Therefore, the difference in input will be caused by the emissive. Both plates are housed in a panel enclosure with a perplex front and have inputs from different dimmer stats so that their temperatures can be maintained at the same level. As a result, emissivity can be determined at many different temperatures.

Experimental Objectives

• To measure the emissivity of the test surface in comparison to black surface
• To determine the emissivity of the gray surface using emissivity apparatus.
