The
apparatus consists of three concentric pipes mounted on a sturdy stand. The
space between the innermost and middle pipes is filled with one type of lagging
material, while a different lagging substance fills the gap between the middle
and outermost pipes. A cartridge heater is positioned along the axis of the
innermost pipe to provide controlled heating. The input power to the heater can
be monitored using the voltmeter and ammeter provided on the control panel.
Thermocouples attached to the surfaces of the pipes measure temperature at
various points, allowing for accurate determination of the thermal conductivity
of the insulating materials.
Experimental Objective
Plot
the radial temperature distribution across the composite cylinder and determine
the thermal conductivity of the pipe insulation.
