The system comprises of a plate-type heat exchanger with hot water from a geyser as the hot fluid and cold fluid, respectively. The input and outside connectors for the fluids are set up to create a counter-flow type exchanger. The students can calculate the heat transfer rate, LMTD, heat transfer coefficients, and efficiency of the heat exchanger using the measurements that are presented when hot and cold fluids flow between alternating plates.
