The apparatus consists of a 100 cm long mild steel beam with a cross section of 2.5 cm by 3 cm, which is pinned to two symmetrically spaced supports 70 cm apart. By applying a known moment at one end using suspended loads, the beam can either have one end fixed or set at a known slope. Similarly, a moment can also be applied at the opposite end. Vertical loads can be applied at various locations along the beam's span to study its behavior under different conditions. The device may come equipped with a dial gauge featuring a 25 mm travel range and a magnetic base for precise deflection measurements. A supporting stand and a set of weights will be provided with the apparatus.
Experimental Objective
This
apparatus is used to know the elastic properties like strain in an externally
loaded beam.
