The apparatus consists of three suspension
elements, each with varying stiffness, connected at a single point to form a redundant
joint. The upper ends of these suspension members are fixed to a vertical
wooden board using a positional tie. A vertical load can be applied to the
joint, allowing the use of dial gauges to measure the forces and elongations in
the suspension members, as well as their horizontal and vertical displacements.
The equipment includes dial gauges with magnetic bases, making it easy to
capture precise measurements.
Experimental Objective
Comparison
of experimental and theoretical results of forces in the members and the
component displacement of the loaded joint D of a three bar suspension system
for vertical loads.
