The apparatus features a mild steel arch with hinges at both the supports and the crown, spanning 100 cm in length and rising 25 cm in height. The ends of the arch rest on rollers at one point. Multiple marked locations along the arch’s horizontal span allow for the application of weights. As this structure is statically determinate, the horizontal thrust generated by any applied load system can be theoretically calculated. Additionally, it can be practically measured by neutralizing the outward movement of the roller end. The apparatus may include a dial gauge with a magnetic base and a 25 mm travel range. A supporting stand and a set of weights will also be provided with the setup.
