The equipment is designed to study the performance of cam profiles and follower systems. It features a shaft supported by ball bearings that can hold three different types of cams. The push rod for the follower, which is vertically supported, can be adjusted to three different types of followers. Changing followers and cams is easy. A variable speed motor drives the cam, and a dial gauge is used to plot the displacement of the follower in relation to the cam position. The jump speed can be measured, and the effect of weight and spring force on jump speed can be studied by running the system at various speeds. Additionally, a stroboscope (not included) can be used to visualize the jump


Experimental Objective

To plot the profile of a circular cam with a flat-faced follower using the provided apparatus.


Specification

  • Cam types Eccentric, Tangent, and Circular ARC, one of each.
  • Follower types Mushroom, Flat-faced, and Roller, one of each.
  • Cams and followers are hardened to minimize surface wear.
  • Variable speed motor coupled to the camshaft with suitable range and variance.
  • A dial gauge is provided to measure follower displacement.
  • A technical manual is included with the equipment.


Utilities required other than above supply

  • 230V AC stabilized supply with earthing connection.
  • Bench area 0.5m x 0.5m x 0.5m height.
  • Tachometer to measure jumping speed (optional).
