The apparatus includes a rotor fixed on bearings, allowing smooth rotation around three main axes: the spin axis, the precession axis, and the gyroscopic couple axis. A variable speed motor is attached to the rotor, providing accurate control of its spinning speed. To ensure balance, the motor’s weight is offset by an equal counterweight placed on the opposite side of the rotor. Extra weights can also be added to the weight platform to apply torque on the rotor, which in turn creates a gyroscopic couple.
Experimental Objective
To determine the effect of an active gyroscopic couple on a spinning disc and verify the principles of gyroscopic effect.
To study the gyroscopic behavior of rotating masses and experimentally verify the gyroscopic relation.
