The device has a primary spindle that is powered by a variable speed motor. Over the spindle, three different governor assemblies can be placed. The lift of the governor is measured using a with pointer. Sensitivity, stability, governor effort, and other governor attributes can be calculated by students in order to compare their performance.
Experimental Objectives
To demonstrate whirling and the whirling speed of a cylindrical shaft for various end constraints.
To compare these speeds with analytical predictions.
