The device features a primary spindle driven by a variable speed motor. Three different governor assemblies can be placed over the spindle for testing. The lift of the governor is measured using a pointer. Students can calculate various governor attributes, including sensitivity, stability, and governor effort, allowing them to compare the performance of each assembly.
Experimental Objective
To demonstrate whirling and the whirling speed of a cylindrical shaft for various end constraints.
To compare these speeds with analytical predictions.
