The apparatus consists of a forced-draught,
counter-flow cooling tower. A fan is used to provide cooling air. Air enters
the tower at its base. Hot water is created via a geyser. Hot water is sprayed
over the mesh packing through the nozzles as it descends. Water cools as a
result of evaporative cooling caused by air movement. This student is capable
of calculating the energy balance and examining cooling tower operation.
