This Lever Apparatus is a classroom-friendly physics laboratory instrument used to demonstrate the principle of moments and the equilibrium condition of a lever. It allows students to observe how force and distance from the fulcrum affect the turning effect produced on a balanced lever.
The apparatus is provided with an aluminium lever scale graduated 25–0–25 cm, with zero marked at the center. The lever is supported on a stone agate knife edge, which helps reduce friction and provides accurate balancing during experiments. Two movable plastic clamps slide along the scale to hold loads at different positions.
Mounted on a heavy and stable base, the apparatus is suitable for practical demonstrations of force, lever arm, moment, and equilibrium. Supplied without slotted weights, but includes one 50 g hooked weight and one 100 g hooked weight.
Experimental Objectives
To verify the principle of moments using a lever. To study the conditions for equilibrium of a lever. To understand the relation between applied force, distance from fulcrum, and turning moment. To demonstrate how different loads balance at different positions on a lever.
