This Jaeger’s Surface Tension Apparatus is a specialized physics laboratory setup used to determine the surface tension of liquids by Jaeger’s method. It is also useful for studying how surface tension changes with the concentration of a solution. The apparatus works by measuring the pressure required to form air bubbles through fine jets immersed in the liquid. It consists of a manometer tube mounted on a vertical wooden stand, a conical flask with side tube, a dropping funnel, three interchangeable jets of different bore sizes, and a beaker.

Designed for accurate observation and practical demonstration, this apparatus is suitable for surface tension experiments in schools, colleges, universities, and educational physics laboratories.

Experimental Objectives

To determine the surface tension of a liquid using Jaeger’s method.
To study the effect of concentration on the surface tension of a solution.
To measure the pressure required for the formation of air bubbles in a liquid.
To understand the relation between pressure, radius of bubble, and surface tension.
