This Katers Reversible Pendulum Steel is a precision-engineered physics laboratory apparatus used for the accurate determination of acceleration due to gravity (g). It works on the principle that the center of suspension and center of oscillation are interchangeable.
The apparatus consists of a high-quality steel rod of approximately 120 cm length and 1.2 cm diameter, fitted with hardened pointed ends. It is provided with two adjustable knife edges facing each other for reversible suspension. Two cylindrical iron weights of different sizes can be moved along the rod and fixed securely at desired positions using thumb screws. Additional balancing weights are also supplied for fine adjustment during the experiment.
Designed for durability, accuracy, and easy operation, this instrument is ideal for advanced mechanics experiments in schools, colleges, universities, and research laboratories. Supplied complete with a wall mounting bracket.
Experimental Objectives
To determine the acceleration due to gravity (g) using Katers Reversible Pendulum.
To verify the principle of reversibility of center of suspension and center of oscillation.
To study the time period of a compound pendulum under different suspension points.
