Moment of Disc Apparatus is a well-designed physics laboratory instrument used to study the principle of moments and equilibrium of coplanar forces. It helps students understand how forces acting at different distances from the center produce turning effects and how a system can be balanced under equilibrium conditions.
The apparatus consists of a well-balanced aluminium disc mounted vertically on a sturdy tripod stand. The disc is supported on low-friction ball bearings to ensure smooth rotation during experiments. Symmetrically arranged holes are provided in concentric circles of known diameters, allowing pins with scale pans to be placed at different radial distances.
For accurate alignment and measurement, the apparatus includes a graduated mirror scale, plumb line, levelling screws, and two side pulleys. Supplied complete with four scale pans, it is suitable for schools, colleges, universities, and educational physics laboratories.
